WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION
The Whitehead School has developed a close and formal working relationship with the World Health Organization. The WHO office at the United Nations has committed to supervising at least 2 Whitehead students as interns every semester. Our students have contributed substantially to major WHO projects, focusing on subjects such as bioterrorism and global health, emerging communicable diseases in Africa, the efficacy of HIV/AIDS treatments on women, infectious diseases as a threat to national and global security, and other vital issues. Some interns have had their work with the WHO published. For example, as an intern, Eric Corens (M.A., 2005) became the production coordinator for Africa Health Day 2004 and subsequently compiled and edited the Africa Health Day 2004 Report, published in September 2004. The School’s relationship with the WHO continues to grow, leading to further hands-on global heath learning experiences for our students.
