FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How long will it take to complete an M.A. in Diplomacy and International Relations?
The 45 credit program generally takes between two and
two and a half years of full time study. Students may
elect to complete some program requirements during the
summer sessions.
Can students attend part-time?
Yes, about 10% of the students are enrolled part-time. Classes are usually offered at convenient times for students to work and/or
intern while continuing their studies.
What are the program academic pre-requisites?
Applicants are strongly encouraged to have completed
micro-economics, macro-economics and statistics (or
research methods) at the undergraduate level, prior to
the first semester of graduate studies. These courses
may be taken at any accredited college or university and
are not limited to an undergraduate degree granting
institution.
How do graduate test scores factor into the admission decision?
The Whitehead School requires submission of standardized
test scores. Applicants may submit one of the following: Graduate Record Examination (GRE), Graduate
Management Admissions Test (GMAT), or the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT).
Admission to the Whitehead School is based on careful
review of all application materials. Although
standardized test scores are required, academic
performance as indicated by an undergraduate academic
transcript, a statement of purpose, three academic or
professional recommendations and any additional
supplemental material are evaluated in the application
review.
What is your ETS code?
The Whitehead School institution code is 2051. Please send test scores using this code; otherwise they will be processed centrally
by Seton Hall University instead of coming directly to the Whitehead School of Diplomacy.
Do you require personal interviews?
Personal interviews are not required. Prospective students are encouraged to meet administrators, faculty and students throughout
the application process. Information sessions are held monthly at the School
and applicants may also schedule a visit. Call the
School’s Graduate Admissions Office, 973-275-2514, to
set up a visit or to R.S.V.P. for an information session.
Do I have to submit all parts of my application simultaneously?
No. While it is convenient to receive complete application packages, it is not always possible to gather credentials at one time.
If one or more credentials are delayed, submit the application with the materials on hand.
How should letters of recommendation be submitted?
Letters of recommendation can be sent directly to the Whitehead School or may be forwarded by the applicant. Letters of
recommendation should be sent on official letterhead and signed over the seal of the envelope.
