INTERNSHIPS
Our distinct approach to learning blends theory and practical experience to prepare students for interdisciplinary careers that
span government, business, international organizations, NGOs and the nonprofit sector. Professional internships allow students
to apply classroom learning, gain a better understanding of the career tracks available, and form mentoring relationships with
potential employers.
The School’s proximity and access to New York and the United Nations, Washington DC, and international locations exposes
students to a world of career opportunities. Whitehead students have completed internships in every sector and field related to
diplomacy and international relations, at some of the world’s most prestigious organizations.
Undergraduate and graduate students must complete one internship, and can complete a second internship for academic credit. All internships for credit must
be approved by the Director of Internships and Career Development. Journals and a final paper completed by the intern
facilitate the integration of international relations theory with what is learned during the internship.
