WHERE TO LIVE

Most of our graduate students choose to find apartments within walking distance of campus. They enjoy the shops, restaurants, and college-town feel of South Orange. Living nearby enables students to easily extend discussion and study outside of the classroom while enjoying social events on and off campus.

Students also choose to live in the neighboring suburban communities of Maplewood, Chatham, Springfield, Summit, Millburn, Montclair or West Orange. These towns offer a range of housing options and are just a short distance from campus by car or train. For those looking for a more urban experience, the areas around Newark’s Penn Station and Hoboken are popular choices for young professionals. Jersey City, with its downtown waterfront and abundant mass transit, is another option. Some students who work or intern in New York City may choose to live in Manhattan, and commute to campus by train. The South Orange Station of New Jersey Transit is just a fifteen minute walk from campus. The Midtown Direct line offers a thirty minute ride from South Orange to Penn Station in New York.

While Seton Hall does not offer on-campus housing for its graduate students, an Online Housing Database is available through Blackboard, the University’s online posting board. Developed and operated by graduate students of the Whitehead School, the Online Housing Database acts as a forum enabling students to discuss various apartment buildings and neighborhoods in the area, as well as find roommates. Students receive access to the Database with a student PIN number once they are enrolled.
