UNITED NATIONS ASSOCIATION OF THE USA
The Whitehead School of Diplomacy and International Relations has capitalized on its proximity to New York City by establishing
partnerships with the United Nations community. These relationships serve as a connection between Seton Hall and the world of
international diplomacy, providing our students with a unique opportunity to observe and participate in global policymaking.
The Whitehead School's exclusive alliance with the United Nations Association of the USA is the foundation of the School's bridge to
international diplomacy. The nation's largest grassroots foreign policy organization, dedicated to policy analysis, education and research
on the UN, the United Nations Association of the USA works closely with the Whitehead School to provide students with direct exposure
to policymakers and the policymaking process. The alliance creates opportunities for students to foster their professional development
through interaction with UN practitioners.
Students participate in policy conferences and hear directly from UN diplomats and professionals in courses held jointly at United Nations
Association headquarters in New York and on the Seton Hall campus. Through internships at the UNA-USA, the UN, and its related
agencies and neighboring diplomatic missions, students contribute to research and analysis of key issues before the UN General Assembly.
The UNA-USA is also an important source of support for the Whitehead School's Model United Nations programs, which include an
award-winning collegiate Model UN team. The Seton Hall Model United Nations student organization hosts a two day conference on
campus each year, where more than 400 high school students participate in a simulation of the workings of various UN bodies.
In recognition of the School's work in promoting understanding of the United Nations, it has received special status as an affiliated
non-governmental organization, through the UN Department of Public Information. This status enables faculty and students to network
and engage in joint efforts with other recognized nongovernmental organizations.
In addition, Seton Hall's Walsh Library has been
designated a United Nations depository.
