CONFERENCES AND SYMPOSIA

The Whitehead School hosts a variety of conferences and symposia that help bring international affairs issues into greater focus. Events are organized in cooperation with faculty and students and reflect the interests and perspectives of the Whitehead School community. Among the programs the School has sponsored are the Dialogue Among Civilizations, the Faculty Lunch Seminar Series, the Global Perspectives Symposia, and conferences on global health.

In the past, conferences and symposia have addressed the roots of terrorism and the challenges facing United States foreign policy in the aftermath of September 11, the struggle for peace in Cyprus, public health and governance, the influence of politics and religion in cross-cultural dialogue, and the changing role of power and sovereignty in international organizations like the European Union.

Last a spring,  the Whitehead School's Center for Global Health Studies hosted its first major conference. "Health and Governance: Where are the Linkages?" brought together a distinguished panel of public health experts for a probing exploration of the economic and political impact of health crises. The group focused on several recent examples of infectious disease outbreaks and the capacity governments had to prepare for and respond to them.
